Local student runs to honor brother

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The horn blared in the background, indicating that it was time for Corral C to move forward. My hands began sweating, and my body felt paralyzed with nerves. The harsh horn played again. The runners around me began advancing forward, developing a steady rhythm. After a few seconds, I was able to do the same, going left, right, left, right, and reminding myself I was running this half-marathon for my brother.

Local students collect rice for United Nations

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – From Tuesday, Sept. 15 to Tuesday, Oct. 6., the Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) Key Club participated in the United Nation’s (UN)Freericeprogram. The purpose of the Freerice program is to raise awareness about world hunger and help collect food to those in need around the world.

Local high school senior wins humanitarian award

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) senior Ethan Spasciani received a 2020 Florida Holocaust Museum Anne Frank Humanitarian Award. According to the museum Facebook page, “This award recognizes humanitarian actions that better the lives of other individuals or a group. By ‘doing the right thing,’ our recipients hold true to the nature and spirit of Anne Frank, who despite everything she endured, did not abandon her ideals. She wrote in her diary – and I quote – ‘in spite of everything I still believe that people are truly good at heart.’”

Local student trainer is Florida's best

Local seniors get caps, gowns, cheers and applause

Local softball team first in nation (sort of)

The Lakewood Ranch High softball team practicing before schools were shut down. (LAKEWOOD RANCH FL.) - Due to Covid- 19, it is unknown whether the 2020 Lakewood Ranch High School (LRHS) softball team would have become the first in the school’s history to win a state title. The Mustangs at least have the consolation of finishing the year ranked number one in the nation by Extra Inning Softball.
