OBITUARY: Mr. Oliver Grant

Mr. Oliver Douglas Grant, age 49, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas passed from this life Saturday evening, November 27, 2021, near Lockesburg, Arkansas. Shun was born March 23, 1972, to Odis Handy and Mary Edward Grant in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and worked as a Handyman. Oliver was a Christian and attended church at Lewis Temple Church of God and the Faith and Deliverance Center in De Queen. He enjoyed fishing, riding 4-wheelers, and playing basketball. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with his family and many friends.

Old Fashioned Community Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long Set For Monday

The Garrett Memorial Baptist Church and the Klipsch Museum of Audio History will hold an “old fashioned Community Christmas Carol Sing-a-Long” Monday Dec. 6th at 7pm following the Hope Christmas Parade. The event will be held in the Paul W. Klipsch Auditorium in City Hall. Admission is free. Seating is limited. Congregational singing will be held by Jack Daniels and Mike Goodwin. There will also be performances by the Garrett Memorial Praise Team, Arnetta Bradford, Jack Johnson, Measure of Grace, and more. The public is invited.

Two Vehicle Accident Results in Death of Nashville Man

A 40-year-old Nashville man died early Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 70 east of Kirby, according to another state police report. Jonathan Orr was driving a 2009 Hyundai northbound on the highway at around 5:36 a.m. when he was hit head-on by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu that crossed the centerline, the report said.

Colts Defeat East Texas Baptist Tigers JV 103-65

The UA Cossatot Colts men's basketball team ran their record to 7-3 with a 103-65 victory over the East Texas Baptist Tigers JV team Monday night, November 29, in Lockesburg. The Colts scored 22 straight points to take an early 28-5 lead and never looked back, as they picked up their 5th win in a row and their ninth consecutive victory at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Historic Gym. It was another big night for Terry Anderson as he finished with another double-double: 21 points (including four dunks), ten rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two blocked shots. Kamren Woods added 20, Shane Bell 18, and Dalon Dean had 13, including 3 three-pointers. Dean was #2 overall in the nation in total three-pointers in NJCAA Division II heading into Monday's game.

Sevier County ATV wreck kills one

A Lockesburg man died about 10 p.m. Saturday in an ATV wreck on Silver Ridge Road in Sevier County. According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Oliver Grant, 49, was driving a Suzuki Eiger north on the road near Lockesburg when he drove off the east shoulder, left the roadway and was thrown from the ATV into a creek.

Nashville Police Department Arrest “The Quarter Bandit”

On November 16, 2021, the Nashville Police Department took reports of washing machines broken into in different locations in Nashville. The washing machines were drilled into and coins removed from Walnut Apartments, Toland Height Apartments, and Melrose and Brentwood Apartments. Video footage was obtained that showed the suspect drilling into the machines and the suspect vehicle, a black Chevrolet Colorado.
