4-H Grant

Photo Submitted 4-H Grant Farm Credit Illinois recently awarded a community grant in the amount of $500 to the Moultrie County Shining Stars 4-H Club. The club chose to donate a bench to Sullivan Elementary School Playground. Club members and parents helped pick out the bench, including the style and color. 2020-2021 Club President Sarina Voegel contacted SES Principal, Leslie Guyot to ask about the need for a bench and then contacted her again to tell her the 4-H club had been awarded the grant. The Moultrie County Shining Stars were one of more than 40 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters in Illinois who received one of these grants. More than $30,000 in grant funds has been awarded to clubs and chapters in the last decade making tangible contributions in their communities by implementing improvement projects.

Moultrie County Man Sentenced to Prison

Christopher J. Landess, 52, of Arthur has been sentenced to imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections. At a hearing on May 10, Judge Jeremy Richey accepted a plea in which Landess pled guilty to the offenses of Ct. I: Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 Felony, 20-CF-18 and Ct. III: Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 Felony, 20-CF-18. Landess was sentenced to four years in Moultrie County which will be served consecutively to Champaign County case 20-CF-823 for which he was sentenced to 30 years IDOC on April 28, 2020 for the offense of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X felony. Car Crash

According to Sullivan Police Chief Andrew Pistorius, on Tuesday afternoon last week at 4 p.m. there was a traffic complaint received about a vehicle between Bethany and Sullivan. A Moultrie County Sheriff’s deputy tried to catch up to the vehicle but was unable to due to the vehicle’s rate of speed. A Sullivan police officer also tried to catch up to the vehicle. At Eden Street and Hamilton the vehicle tried to go around another vehicle and lost control hitting a large utility pole. The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was ticketed by Moultrie County and the Sullivan Police Department.

Update: Man Identified in I-64 Semi Collision with Individual

A Moultrie County, Illinois man is dead after he was struck by a semi truck along Interstate 64 early Friday morning. White County Coroner Chris Marsh tell us 36 year old Dustin Gregory of Lovington, Illinois was walking in the eastbound lane of I-64 after his truck broke down just east of the Little Wabash River. It was around 4am when he was struck by a semi tractor as Marsh says he was trying to cross the lane in front of it. White County Ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Illinois State Police and Marsh are continuing their investigation.

Remember When? 5-12-2021

Spring storms turned streets into rivers, toasted electrical equipment and made two flood rescues necessary in Moultrie County. A lightning bolt struck Sullivan’s tallest building, the Moultrie County Courthouse, damaging phones throughout the building as well as computers with phone modems and the courtroom security system.
