Pep Fest Venue Changes Due to COVID

This week’s Homecoming festivities for the Morris schools will wrap up Friday with a Black and Orange Pepfest at 1:45 p.m. Originally scheduled to be held in the Elementary Gym, Interim Superintendent Shane Monson told the KMRS Community Connection that the spike in COVID cases in the county will prompt a change of venue.

A Glenwood man was involved in a fatal crash with a pedestrian in Traverse County on Thursday morning, Sept. 23. Nicholas Bo Hunter, 37, was driving a 2010 Kenwood tractor and was on 650th Street and attempting to back onto Highway 27 near Wheaton when the vehicle struck a pedestrian who died in the crash, according to the State Patrol.

After 70 years in Benson, Breen’s Pharmacy sold

After 70 years as a main street Benson business owned by the Breen family, Breen’s Pharmacy has been sold. Large pharmacy chain Thrifty White bought Breen’s Pharmacy and Lewis Drug located in the Do-Mat’s store on west U.S. Highway 12 at virtually the same time. They have closed the Breen’s pharmacy business and moved it to what is now a Thrifty White pharmacy.

School Board Votes Against Motion for Temporary Mask Mandate

Concerned that the number of active COVID-19 cases in Stevens County is much worse than this time last year while “none of the safeguards are in place” as they were last year, Morris School Board member Steve Just offered a motion at Monday night’s School Board meeting to require masks be worn by K-5 students indoors for the next two weeks. The younger grades were targeted in the motion because if they become ill, finding daycare could be a problem for parents.

FERGUS FALLS – The University of Minnesota Morris men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Spartan Invitational, hosted by Minnesota State Community and Technical College on Sunday and Monday at the Pebble Lake Golf Course.
