Fire crews battling new fires around AZ, evacuations near Sycamore Canyon

CLIFTON, AZ (3TV/CBS5) - As the Backbone Fire rages on near Strawberry and Pine, fire officials now fighting a number of new fires across the state. The Rafael Fire is burning 4 miles north of Perkinsville, AZ. near Sedona. It sparked Friday, June 18, by dry thunderstorms in the area. As of Sunday evening, it had burned 10,000 acres. Strong winds from the west in combination with terrain, and low humidity caused increased fire behavior Sunday.

Efforts to contain Pinnacle Fire hampered by winds

Extreme weather conditions have Graham County and U.S. Forest Service personnel advising taking extra time to be prepared for the unexpected while visiting Mount Graham.
