High School Football Preview: Long Beach Poly vs. Compton

Long Beach Poly (4-3, 2-0) takes the field tonight against Compton (2-4, 1-2) hoping to begin the stretch run to the CIF-SS playoffs with a crisp effort that proves they’re ready for the postseason. The Jackrabbits played their most complete game of the year last week against Aquinas, with strong effort on offense, defense, and special teams, and a few hundred fewer yards in penalties than they’d had against Millikan and Wilson in their two previous games.

Los Al holds off Edison to take lead in league race

Los Alamitos High’s football team held off Edison 35-28 to grab the inside track to the Sunset League Championship on Thursday at Westminster High. Quarterback Malachi Nelson threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns as the Griffins led by as much as 35-14. But the Chargers rallied for two late touchdowns to cut the lead to 35-28 before the Griffins recovered an on-side kick attempt and ran out the clock.

2024 Ayala QB Bryan Wilson is geared up to lead a blooming program back to glory

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – When Ayala fell 21-7 to Glendora on Oct. 1, it was an unfamiliar feeling for the Bulldogs. Up until that non-league defeat, they had put together one of the most impressive winning streaks in the Southern Section, previously racking up 22 straight regular season wins dating back to 2018. That stretch included back-to-back league titles in the 2019 and 2020-2021 seasons, during which Ayala was ranked in the top 500 nationally at multiple points.

LAHS senior wins three gold medals at World Karate Championships

When Reece Yoshizawa was 4 years old, he did anything to mimic Power Rangers such as flying jump kicks, cartwheels and karate-chops. His parents thought it would be a good idea to sign him up for karate classes. Yoshizawa, now 16 and a senior at Los Alamitos High School, just returned home from Cluj-Nopaca, Romania where he represented the United States at the 2021 World Karate Championships and clinched 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 1 Bronze Medal. He is now a World Champion in Karate.
