1 arrested in break-in at Rosemead business

At least one person was taken into custody outside a Rosemead business that had been burglarized overnight.The owner of JC Company Mart, at 8062 Garvey Ave., called police at about 5:20 a.m. Thursday to report his business' security system had detected movement at the closed storefront. The owner told authorities this wasn't the first break-in at his store – a previous burglary occurred when someone got in through the roof.The business owner went out to the store to let the deputies in, but a Los Angeles County Fire truck was called in so deputies could find how the intruder made entry. Once the deputies got up to the roof, they found an air conditioning unit had been removed so a person could get into the building. Within the hour, one man in baggy, light-colored shorts and a dusty black shirt had been taken into custody. But authorities say a second suspect may still be in the store.

DEA says Los Angeles area meth bust was largest in region

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal and local authorities investigating drug trafficking by Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel found more than 3,550 pounds (1,600 kilos) of methamphetamine and 145 pounds (66 kilos) of cocaine at a home in Southern California, officials said. The bust marked the largest meth seizure in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Los Angeles Division, the DEA said in a statement Wednesday. Investigators watching a possible stash house in Norco late last month observed an individual carry three boxes from the residence to a vehicle, the statement said. A search of the vehicle turned up the cocaine and the meth was found in the garage of the home, according to the DEA. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $33 million, officials said.

San Juan Bautista resident identified in fatal 2-car collision near Solvang

A woman killed in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon at State Route 246 west of Solvang has been identified as Linda McIntyre of San Juan Bautista. The incident involved a 2016 Honda Accord, driven by Buellton resident Stephen Waldman, 71, and a 2020 Honda CR-V, driven by McIntyre, 73, and her passenger, 73-year-old Charlotte Ann Buck of Duarte, California.

Small vegetation fire breaks out at Hansen Dam

Los Angeles Fire Department crews managed to fully contain a vegetation fire that broke out in the Hansen Dam recreation area on Thursday.Firefighters managed to establish a perimeter on the fire that started at one-half of an acre, with potential to grow to three acres. By the time the perimeter was set up, the Orcas Fire was contained to a quarter of an acre. There were no injuries reported nor were there any damaged structures. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and firefighters will remain at the scene for at least two hours to handle smoldering debris, according to LAFD.

Fire Damages Auto Repair Shop in Lancaster

Fire damaged a metal-clad auto repair shop in Lancaster Thursday. Firefighters dispatched at 10:30 a.m. to 43251 Division St. had the blaze out at 11:14 a.m., the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported. No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire was under investigation.
