ECHS wins 3; battles for playoff slot

Escambia County High School’s varsity baseball team still has a hold on the second place slot within the AHSAA Class 4A, Region 1 standings after winning three games last week and dropping only one. The ECHS Blue Devils started off the week, defeating Monroe County, 6-5, last Tuesday, April 6 and dropped game 2 of the double-header, 5-2. Hasten Dean, Jamrion Robinson, Anthony McCants, James Gibson, Michael Merchant and Jacorie Nickson all scored for ECHS during the 6-5 victory over the Tigers. Lebron Willis gained the win on the mound for the Blue Devils, striking out 4 batters and allowing 5 runs off 5 hits. Despite the solid hitting performance from ECHS, the team made 5 errors behind the pitcher.

3 men arrested for drugs, trafficking

Three men were arrested March 30 on drug possession and trafficking charges, according to officials. Monroe County Sheriff Tom Boatwright announced recently that agents with the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force from Escambia and Monroe Counties, Atmore Police Department, Jackson Police Department and assisted by the Monroeville Police Department, arrested the three men in Monroeville.

Frisco City woman killed in single-vehicle crash

MONROE CO., Ala. (WALA) - A single-vehicle crash at approximately 8:38 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, has claimed the life of a Frisco City woman. Officials say 42-year-old Shannon Odom of Frisco City was injured when the 2015 Ford F-150 he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. Belinda Odom, 44, also of Frisco City, was a passenger in the pickup and was killed as a result of the crash.
