Police investigating discovery of human remains near Morgantown

MORGANTOWN – Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the discovery of a body along Dug Hill Road just outside of Morgantown. Investigators from the sheriff’s department and state medical examiner’s office were dispatched Thursday afternoon and the remains in such a state that making an positive identification or even determining the individual’s gender was impossible. Detectives say the individual was wearing a Los Angles Lakers jersey with black sweatpants and appeared to have had dreadlocks.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The former Blacksville No. 2 Mine in Monongalia County is scheduled to cease operations later this year, resulting in the layoffs of 180 workers. Monongalia County Resources, Inc. has filed a WARN Notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry stating the underground mine and prep plant will be shut down in two stages in August and September. The complex along the West Virginia-Pennsylvania border is owned by American Consolidated Natural Resources, Inc. the company that took over following Murray Energy’s bankruptcy.
