Chippewa Falls Police search for vehicle Friday, say ‘there is a danger to the public’

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - The Chippewa Falls Police Department is searching for a vehicle and say they believe there is a danger to the public. According to a Facebook post made Friday afternoon, the Chippewa Falls Police Department is looking for a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, colored black, with no license plates. Police indicated that the vehicle has been involved in multiple attempted abductions of adult women and is part of an active investigation.

Teen employee killed in accident at suburban Minneapolis Menards

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) - An accident at a home improvement store in a Minneapolis suburb has killed an employee. Authorities say a man operating a forklift in the lumberyard of Menards in Golden Valley died when a large pallet of wood tumbled onto his machine Thursday. Relatives identified the victim as 19-year-old James Stanback.

Court refuses plea agreement in Eau Claire nonprofit embezzlement case

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - A judge is rejecting a deferred acceptance of guilty plea agreement in a case involving embezzlement from an Eau Claire-based charity. 41-year-old Renelle Laffe was charged with theft in a business setting for a dollar amount of greater than $10,000 up to $100,000 in 2019. Laffe was the founder of Hope in the Valley, a charity established to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, and was the co-director of the Dragon Boat Festival at Half Moon Lake, which raised money for cancer services.

14-year-old killed in Eau Claire shooting

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — A 14-year-old boy was killed Wednesday in a shooting in Eau Claire, according to police. The Eau Claire Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot wound at just before 3 p.m. Wednesday on the 2800 block of Terry Lane on the city’s north side. They found Marwan D. Washington wounded, but life-saving measures failed and he died at the scene.

Area where pedestrian died getting safety upgrade in Altoona

ALTOONA — Construction begins next week on safety improvements along a developing stretch of U.S. 12 where a pedestrian died in 2017. Pedestrian crossing lights, a crosswalk and paved trails leading to the intersection of Third Street and U.S. 12 will be added through a $113,400 project funded by the state Department of Transportation.
