Carlos Santana collapses on Pine Knob stage in middle of song, taken off on stretcher

CLARKSTON, MI - Fans attending the Santana concert at Pine Knob were shocked when the 74-year old legendary guitarist collapsed on stage right in the middle of a song. It happened about 40 minutes into Santana’s set at their concert on Tuesday, July 5th after Earth, Wind and Fire performed. Carlos Santana had just told the crowd a story about the song he was about to perform called “Joy” which he co-wrote with Chris Stapleton.

Construction will close lane of West Milham Avenue in Portage

PORTAGE, MI -- A construction project will cause a lane closure in Portage this week, the city reports. Beginning 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, a lane closure in the eastbound curb lane on West Milham Avenue will occur for drainage structure work, the city of Portage said in a news release.

Man, woman arrested after shots fired in Kalamazoo Township

A man and a woman were arrested in an investigation of a shots fired incident in Kalamazoo Township, police said. About 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 4, the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department responded to 911 calls of shots fired near an apartment complex in the 3700 Block of W. Main Street, the township police department said in a news release. Officers found several spent shell casings in the area. The immediate area was checked and no victims were located, police said.

$1B contract awarded to build new Soo Locks chamber over next 7 years

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – Federal officials awarded a more than $1 billion contract to build a new chamber at the Soo Locks after months of scrambling to cover ballooned costs. The Detroit District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on July 1 awarded a $1.068 billion contract to an Ohio-based company expected to begin work this summer on the next phase of the Soo Locks reconstruction project. This third phase of the overall rebuild will create a new lock chamber and improve the downstream approach walls, work expected to take seven years to complete.

Man, 20, killed after vehicle hits tree on West Main Street near Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MI — A 20-year-old man was killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree on West Main Street Monday. The crash happened late Monday, July 4, in the 2200 block of West Main Street, according to a news release from the Kalamazoo Township Police Department. When officers and firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:45 p.m. Monday, the driver, the only person in the vehicle, had succumbed to his injuries.

He is an American Staffordshire mix who gets along well with most other dogs. Benn is house trained and not a barker or jumper.
