Photos: How to replace an 8 million pound railroad bridge truss on the Mississippi River

Reconstruction of the Merchants Bridge railroad bridge over the Mississippi River in downtown St. Louis reached a milestone on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021 as the first of three trusses was lifted into place for the $222 million project. Each truss section weighs over 8 million pounds and is built in Wisconsin and transported to St. Louis, where it is assembled and installed. The bridge was originally built in 1890. The reconstruction project will widen the bridge allowing for two sets of tracks and double the train traffic each day.

MDOT projects move forward in southeast Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Crews with the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) are making improvements to highways in south Mississippi. “Dozens of projects are moving forward throughout southeast Mississippi, and each one of them is geared toward improving safety and increasing Mississippians’ quality of life,” said Commissioner Tom King, Southern Transportation District.

According to the survey, with 19.3 percent of drivers per 1,000 cited for rude behavior, motorists in DeSoto County’s most populous city are 30 percent ruder than the rest of Mississippi.
