California Governor Gavin Newsom announced new vaccine mandate MondayOffice of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Governor Gavin Newsom said at a briefing on Monday in Alameda that he is taking decisive action to combat the spread of COVID-19 and protect vulnerable communities. The governor said he is doing so by implementing a first-in-the-nation standard to require all state workers and workers in health care and high-risk congregate settings to either show proof of full vaccination or be tested at least once per week. He governor said he is encouraging all local government and other employers to adopt a similar protocol.

Man Found Dead in Early Morning House Fire in East San Jose

A man was found dead inside a San Jose home after a fire early Tuesday morning, according to a fire department spokesman. At about 1:05 a.m., firefighters responded to the 2000 block of Estate View Way and Pleasant Crest Drive in the East San Jose foothills on reports of a house fire, officials said.

Live concert blamed for COVID-19 outbreak in Santa Cruz County

FELTON — A concert at Felton Music Hall this month led to a sizable outbreak, the venue posted on its social media Monday night. After the Los Angeles-based Grateful Shred band performed in the hall on July 18, one attendee showed COVID-19 symptoms. When the band got tested, nearly all of the members were COVID-positive, an Instagram post explains.

She says she was not seriously hurt. Boxer served as a US Senator from 1993-2017. Earlier today former Senator Barbara Boxer was assaulted in the Jack London Square neighborhood of Oakland. Firefighter Injured, Suspect in Custody in Connection with South San Jose House Fire

SAN JOSE (BCN) — Fire crews were able to knock down a suspicious house fire in South San Jose Monday afternoon where one man was taken into custody. The blaze was first reported shortly before 2 p.m. at a home in the 3000 block of Abelia Court, in the Windmill Springs neighborhood near Capitol Expressway and McLaughlin Avenue. No injuries have been reported, the fire department said on social media at about 1:30 p.m. People are asked to avoid the area.

Mayor Todd Gloria will give mayoral proclamation to first restaurant who requires vaccination for customers

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Over the weekend, it was announced that a San Jose restaurant is the first in the state to require all of its customers to be vaccinated. Pediatrician, and professor at UCSD Health, Christopher Longhurst, tweeted a screenshot of the news, adding that he will bring his personal business to the first restaurant/bar that does this in San Diego.

The Bay Area touts two of the most educated metro areas in the United States, according to a new WalletHub study. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara ranked second and San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley ranked fourth on a list that crunched 11 scholarly metrics in 150 large metropolitan areas. The factors include number of adults with bachelor’s degrees or higher, the quality of public schools in the area, and racial/gender education gaps, among others.

A hit-and-run accident claimed life of a woman on Tully Road (San Jose, CA) On early Friday morning, a hit-and-run accident killed a woman on Tully Road. As per the initial reports, the fatal pedestrian crash happened at about 1:30 a.m. A woman was walking in the eastbound lanes, outside of a designated crosswalk when she was fatally hit by an early 2000’s red sport utility vehicle. The driver of vehicle escaped from the crash scene and is still at large.
