Bear Spotted in Midland Yard

A family in Midland experienced a close encounter of the wild kind Tuesday, May 17. Aaron and Lou Ann Holland spotted a bear in their yard, close to their house, feeding from one of their bird feeders during the evening hours. The bear tore the feeder down before heading away from the property. The Hollands called 9-1-1, with Midland County Central Dispatch telling them a bear has been sighted in the area.

Kozak takes over as Creek girls' hoops coach

Jeff Kozak has spent the last 20-plus years as a local leader in law enforcement. Now, he's hoping those same leadership skills translate to coaching high school girls' basketball. Midland Public Schools approves development plans at Monday meeting

A series of proposals, that reflect the identified needs for curriculum and staff development across the Midland Public Schools district, was approved during the regular school board meeting on Monday.  The district's Staff/Curriculum Development Committee had recommended 18 proposals for the board's consideration at the April board meeting. The proposals, in total, use around $342,500 of the general fund. Now, the district team awaits funding approval related to the process, before it will consult with those leading each project to make decisions about implementation. Dogs on the runway: Midland animal rescue hosting ‘K9 Katwalk.’

MIDLAND, MI - Dogs will be up on the fashion runway this week as a part of a fundraiser for a Midland area animal rescue. The Midland County Pit Stop is holding a “K9 Katwalk” event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. The event is meant to raise funds to cover veterinary care and supply costs for the pets that Midland County Pit Stop cares for annually. According to the Pit Stop, the organization’s vetting and supply costs were paid for with $52,863.28 in donations.
