‘Bridge to Nowhere’ to be Demolished in 2023

The so-called “Bridge to Nowhere,” a long stretch of highway that welcomes motorists to Newport and Middletown, will be demolished in 2023. The entryway from the Pell Bridge and Route 138 East will be replaced by a Route 138 extension and a new traffic signal that leads to Admiral Kalbfus Road.

2 men accused in deadly Newport shooting plead not guilty

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Two men accused of being involved in a deadly Newport shooting on Valentine’s Day plead not guilty Thursday. Duane Logan, 47, and Shamik Steele, 30, are both charged with murder in connection to the double-shooting at the Friendly Sons of Newport on Farewell Street.

BOAT ACCIDENT ON BRIDGE

A powerboat fell from its trailer Monday and blocked the eastbound side of the Verrazzano Bridge as it traveled from the Rhode Island mainland to Jamestown. The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority posted about the accident at 11 a.m. via Twitter, and traffic was backed up for miles in both directions as crews worked to clear the scene. Middletown Council Weighs Foundation Grant
