National Weather Service Says Tornado Touched Down in the Catskills

New York isn't often associated with tornadoes. However, the National Weather Service says three separate tornadoes have down in parts of the state over the past week. The NWS says a tornado struck the town of Wayland in Steuben County the evening of September 19. NBC says a second weak tornado struck late Sunday, affecting the hamlet of Mattituck on Long Island.

State News: Gov. Hochul Announces $4.5M Investment at Stony Brook State Park

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced construction will start this fall on a project to improve public facilities adjacent to the swim area at Stony Brook State Park in Dansville. A new modern bathhouse and lifeguard office will be the centerpiece of a $4.5 million investment in a park that is a popular summer destination for New York families.

The counterclockwise circulation around the area of low pressure is ushering in moisture from the Great Lakes. As a result, scattered showers once again develop today and an isolated thunderstorm is possible in the afternoon. Overnight, a cold front moves through keeping showers in the forecast. This cold front drops our temperatures and changes our wind direction. We go from the southwest today to the northwest tomorrow and it will be breezy.
