A Thief River Falls man faces several charges after police say they found him with 25 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Phillip David Trontvet, (30) faces one count of Controlled Substance Crime in the Second Degree for the meth, Controlled Substance in the 5th Degree for possessing alleged marijuana wax, and a charge of 4th Degree DWI.

TRF Area Man Accused of Attempted Murder

A Thief River Falls area man has been charged with felony second degree attempted murder, intentional, felony first degree assault, and gross misdemeanor harassment. Paul Gregory Piche allegedly struck a motorcyclist with his pickup truck Monday night in rural Thief River Falls. According to the criminal complaint, Piche is accused of intentionally rear-ending a man’s motorcycle with his pickup truck on the frontage road in front of the 7 Clans Casino. Piche allegedly then struck the man with his pickup truck, causing his body to fly into a ditch. The victim suffered a fractured arm, and bruised ribs. He was taken by ambulance to Sanford in Thief River Falls.

Spring Sports Soundbites: Jacket, Viking baseball, softball play one game over two days

The Cambridge-Isanti Bluejacket and North Branch Viking baseball and softball teams wound up not only battling against each other last week but also combating a common foe in the form of Mother Nature. Both sports were scheduled to play in Cambridge last Wednesday, May 18, in games that were already rescheduled from early in the season. Additionally, the baseball game was rescheduled a second time to Wednesday, after originally being rescheduled for this upcoming Friday — the day before Memorial Day weekend and at least for C-I, what would have been the last of four-straight days with a game.

Softball Concludes Season at Thief River Falls

The Crookston Pirate softball team ended their season with a 1-11 six-inning loss to Thief River Falls in the first round of playoffs on Tuesday, May 24. The first inning was quiet for both teams, but the Pirates took the lead in the top of the second with an RBI single from Ally Perreault. The Prowlers responded in the bottom of the inning with five runs. Crookston committed two errors and the defense let up four hits.

AYLA WOINAROWICZ AND HANNAH PEDERSON BREAK WEST MARSHALL TRACK & FIELD SCHOOL RECORDS

The West Marshall Fusion Track & Field team has been having plenty of great individual performances this spring. Two individuals on the team just broke school records this past week at the same meet in Thief River Falls on May 17. Sophomore Hannah Pederson broke the record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.42, edging out the previous school record of 48.46 set by Tami Pawlowski in 2006. During the same meet, seventh-grader Ayla Woinarowicz crushed the 3200 meters with a time of 12:37.52, which beat the previous record of 12:40 set by Megan Dufault all the way back in 1999.

TRF MAN CITED FOR ASSAULT FOLLOWING PARKING LOT INCIDENT

An area man has been cited for assault following an incident at Walmart in Thief River Falls. Afton Michael Benoit (18) was cited for assault when a caller reported the incident to police just before 4pm Friday, saying the assault took place by his vehicle while he was in the parking lot with his kid.

Thief River Falls police are investigating a stolen license plate. Police were called to the scene just before 3pm Monday where a plate was evidently stolen off a moped scooter. The location of where the plate was stolen from is not included in the police report, only that it was located within city limits.

PIRATE GIRLS GOLF COMPETES AT PRE-SUB-SECTION MEET IN PARK RAPIDS

The Crookston Pirate Girls Golf team competed in the Pre-Sub-Section Meet in Park Rapids on Wednesday at Headwaters Golf Club. The Pirates took second place in the event shooting a 400 and were led by Kaylie Clauson who finished 3rd individually with a 96. Roseau won the event with a team score of 389.

48-year old Shawn Charles Martin from Red Lake has been arrested in connection to a burglary in the town of Grygla. According to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, on May 21st at approximately 9:46 P.M., deputies arrived on the scene in rural Grygla, about 75 miles northwest of Bemidji.
