— Dede Johnson, 5-10, 175, junior, Searcy. Johnson has rushed for 1,473 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Lions, who are 4-3 on the season. He’s also caught 10 passes for 124 yards and 1 touchdown. He rushed for 306 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 44-7 victory over West Memphis and for 305 and 6 touchdowns in a 43-13 victory over Sheridan. He added 217 yards and 1 touchdown in a 37-725 loss to Marion and 210 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 61-28 victory over Pine Bluff.

Batesville wins Yarnell’s Sweetest Play of the Week (10/22/21)

It’s time to announce the Yarnell’s Sweetest Play of the Week for NEA games played on October 22nd, 2021. 3,812 votes were cast on the Sports page. Batesville (38.93% of total ballot) beats Hoxie by 334 votes, Rivercrest was 3rd, Osceola 4th. Gabe Witt with the rock, a mush, a spin cycle, and he’ll fight his way for a 19-yard touchdown. The Pioneers beat Brookland 21-7 to move closer to a 5A State Playoff spot.

Twin Lakes Area mourns loss of Rev. Ed Matthews

A male pedestrian hit by a turning vehicle in Batesville earlier this month has died. The Arkansas State Police Preliminary Fatality Report says Lewis Blue Price, 86, was crossing the roadway at the intersection of Highway 167 (St. Louis Street) and College Street on Oct. 15 when he was struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado truck that was making a turn.

Batesville Pioneers pickup third conference win Friday night, 21-7

The Batesville Pioneers picked up their third 5A East Conference win of 2021 as they defeated the Brookland Bearcats by a final score of 21-7. The Pioneers opened the scoring in the first quarter on a one-yard run by Jay Storlie. The Pioneers would get two touchdown runs from Gabe Witt in the second quarter. The first score came on a 19-yard run and the second came on a 34-yard run near the end of the first half. Esler Ordonez connected on all three of his extra points. Rhett McDonald had an interception for the Pioneers and Grayson Berdeja recovered a fumble to end a Brookland scoring threat.
