Teachers ‘paying it forward’

RACINE — Last fall, Southern teacher Alan Crisp asked his colleague Scott Wolfe to paint his truck, a 1990 Dodge Dakota. The truck had several dents, dings, and rusty spots along with a peeling clear coat, so the job was going to take some time, according to Wolfe. Wolfe told Crisp they could paint it this coming summer when school was out.

Charleston man charged in Meigs County, Ohio murder to be extradited

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man facing charges in connection with an Ohio murder of a former West Virginia football standout appeared in court Thursday. Keontae Nelson, 20, appeared in front of Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Maryclaire Akers for a Fugitive From Justice hearing. Nelson waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and will remain at the South Central Regional Jail. Nelson will then be picked up by Meigs County, Ohio authorities and extradited.

Meigs County Better Livestock 4-H Club Meets at Fairgrounds

POMEROY, Ohio – The Meigs County Better Livestock 4-H Club meet at the Meigs County Fairgrounds May 15 from 3-4:30 p.m. with 25 members present. Landen Woods led the Pledge of Allegiance and Corey Seth led the 4-H Pledge. Maddie Karr read the minutes from the April 24 meeting. Ella Bailey presented the Treasurer’s Report. Landen Woods, Conor Knotts and Lance Hensler presented the Safety Report.

Ruling in DNA Motion in Roush Murder Case, Trial set for September

POMEROY, Ohio – An entry has been filed in the ongoing homicide case of Kane Roush concerning the defendant, Jaquan Hall. Hall was indicted on charges on June 17, 2021 for Aggravated Murder, an unclassified felony, Murder, an unclassified felony, Complicity, an unclassified murder, and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Murder, a felony of the first degree all related to the death of Kane Roush early in the morning of April 4, 2021 in Pomeroy, Ohio.

Sheriff’s Office Notes Results of April’s Distracted Driving Enforcement

POMEROY, Ohio – Information has been released involving the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office participation in April’s Distracted Driving Month. According to Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood the enforcement program is part of Summer Holiday Enforcement Program grant through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office. The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office received a grant of $12,715.94 for 350 overtime hours to conduct High Visibility Enforcement activities in areas of Meigs County in an effort to reduce fatal crashes.

Ohio district track meets begin

And they are off and running. The ‘Buckeye’ side of the Ohio Valley Publishing area has hit full stride as all six area schools have scored points following Day 1 of the Division II and Division III southeast district track and field championships being respectively held at Meigs High School and Nelsonville-York High School.

Southern FFA helps with Ag Day

POMEROY — Last week, Meigs County Ag Day was held at the Meigs County Fairgrounds in Pomeroy. Ag Day was put together by the Athens-Meigs Farm Bureau and people in Meigs County who are in the agricultural field. Ag Day was created to teach youth about FFA through fun, and interactive activities.
