Illinois woman released from prison after wrongful conviction

MCHENRY COUNTY, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — An Illinois woman is no longer behind bars after officials say she was wrongfully imprisoned for more than 19 years. The Illinois Innocence Project (IIP) at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) said its client Jennifer McMullan was released after spending nearly two decades in prison for a crime she did not commit.

Innocent McHenry County woman represented by the UIS Illinois Innocence Project walks free after 19 years of wrongful imprisonment

The Illinois Innocence Project (IIP) at the University of Illinois Springfield is pleased to announce its client Jennifer McMullan has been released after more than 19 years of wrongful imprisonment for a murder she did not commit. At a court hearing on Wednesday, June 16,at the McHenry County Courthouse, the State vacated McMullan’s murder conviction and sentence, and presented a plea agreement that would release McMullan that day with her sentence considered “time served.”

McHenry County receives Triple Crown award for financial reporting

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – McHenry County’s excellence in financial reporting has earned it a special inaugural honor from a national organization of finance professionals. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada has bestowed a Triple Crown medallion to the county for winning all three annual awards granted by the association in one year. The county’s work on its FY 2019 financial reports won it the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, as well as the Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

Community Development seeking applicants for affordable housing grants

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Community Development Department is accepting applications to allocate more than $2.1 million in federal affordable housing funding. The county is offering $2,010,000 in 2021 HOME American Rescue Plan Act (HOME-ARP) supplemental funding, and $105,000 in Community Development Block Grant Program COVID CARES Act (CDBG-CV) funding. The application, instructions, and eligibility criteria, can be found on the Community Development webpage at www.mchenrycountyil.gov/cd. The deadline to apply is noon Tuesday, July 6; late applications will be rejected.

Police arrest felon, woman wanted for selling stolen guns in McHenry

A McHenry man, who is a convicted felon, and a McHenry woman have been charged with possessing multiple guns and selling stolen guns to people that did not have a FOID card. Gustavo A. Munoz, 45, of the 4300 block of Parkway Avenue in McHenry, was indicted on two counts of gunrunning, aggravated possession of a stolen firearm, three unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, six counts of unlawful sale or transfer of a firearm, and residential burglary.
