Q&A: Mt. Shasta exploring ‘transformative transportation change’

In the face of climate change many communities are exploring ways to lessen their dependence on cars. The city of Mt. Shasta is nearing completion of a plan that will reduce its carbon footprint and meet other needs of its 3,000 residents. It’s called the Walk Bike Ride Mt. Shasta Mobility Plan. NSPR’s Ken Devol recently spoke with Katie Selin, a planner with Alta Planning + Design, a consulting firm working with the city.

Major crash closes southbound lanes north of Weed

SISKIYOU, Calif. - Update as of 5:30 a.m. One southbound lane of Interstate-5 is open after a hard closure due to a major crash just north of Weed, CA, Tuesday morning. Two big rigs and a small car collided just after midnight, Tuesday, September 20, 2022, near Edgewood Road off of I-5 north, according to the California Highway Patrol. FireWatch: Mill Fire survivors seek justice

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Cal. -- Mill Fire survivors are seeking justice after the fire left two people dead, three people injured and more than 100 homes destroyed. The fire started in Weed on Sept. 2 and burned about 4,000 acres. Since then, Roseburg Forest Products has stepped forward, saying an equipment malfunction at its Weed location may have started the fire. The official cause of the fire is still ongoing but Roseburg has since started a community fund for those impacted by the fire, as well as allotted $50 million for initial recovery efforts.
