Allison Gray is the Dublin Rodeo Heritage Museum’s new intern that comes every Thursday. Allison comes from a rodeo ranch background and loves music, photography, writing and history. Her grandfather, Tony Gray, is a team roper and her mother Brandy was the Matagorda County Rodeo Queen and is now a wedding photographer. Allison is a triplet and has two sisters, Lauren and Brooke. Allison and her family moved to the Cottonwood area, in Dublin, Texas from New Braunfels, with plans of opening a nonprofit ranch retreat for youths, veterans, caregivers, families and corporate groups. The nonprofit ranch facility is called “4:13 Ranch Cowboy Ministries,” offering camps with activities such as trail rides, ranch rodeos and living the western way of life with Christian teambuilding, confidence building and faith building. Drought expands near Matagorda Bay, as heat persists for Houston

Another day of upper-80s and low-90s across the area on Thursday. And much more to come. The U.S. Drought Monitor update was released yesterday. It did show slight improvement in and north of Houston, mostly in the Brazos Valley. However, drought classified as “extreme” (level 3 of 4) continues to expand now across Matagorda County and portions of Brazoria and Wharton Counties.

Sexton school served children from wide area

Sexton Community was a widely dispersed rural school community just east of the Colorado River and seven miles southwest of Bay City in central Matagorda County. The area reportedly was settled in the early 1800s and sometime before 1896 had a one-room school, located near Big Boggy Creek and called the Franz school, probably after local settler Conrad Franz.
