Veterans Stand Down Is Saturday In North Iowa

(Mason City, IA) — The North Iowa Southern Minnesota Veterans Stand Down will be holding “Operation Golden Hawk” Saturday in Mason City. Organizer Peter Bieber says the Stand Down program got its start in California and is designed to bring as many community resources together in one place at one time as possible for veterans. The hope is to help the veterans who are looking for assistance and give them a second chance. The event will be at the North Iowa Event Center with the opening ceremony at 9 a-m and the closing ceremony at 5 p-m. The event is free and open to all veterans.

Contract awarded for Everybody Plays inclusive park & playground construction in Clear Lake

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council earlier this week approved a contract for the construction of the Everybody Plays inclusive park and playground project. The property at 109 South 15th Street, which used to be a county maintenance garage, was sold to the city last year for $250,000 with the intent to redevelop it into an inclusive playground that provides children and adults of all ages and abilities the opportunity to play together.

Citizens being reminded of proper placement of political signs

MASON CITY — Officials are reminding the public that campaign signs are permitted only on private property and are prohibited on city parking and county road right-of-way. The Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office says signs in violation may be removed by the appropriate engineering department or law enforcement authority if they are deemed to not follow the law.
