ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two Rochester bar and restaurants are closing their doors. Unter Biergarten on East Avenue and Tap and Mallet in the South Wedge both made the announcement this week. Unter Biergarten posted Tuesday that the world has changed and it's time for them to "refocus their efforts."

Woman charged in Rochester convenience store murder pleads not guilty

Rochester, N.Y. — The man accused of slashing and stabbing another man inside a city convenience store appeared in court Tuesday. Jamie Prescott pleaded not guilty to killing Anthony Lovett, 59, inside a convenience store on Lake Avenue between Emerson Street and Phelps Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Monday. She has been charged with second-degree murder.

Tap & Mallet, a pioneering beer bar and gastropub in Rochester’s South Wedge, announced Monday it will close at the end of December after 14 years of business. The move comes amid a local beer scene changed by market forces and the coronavirus pandemic. Joe McBane, a native of Sheffield, England, who came to Rochester more than 20 years ago to work at the Old Toad on Alexander Street, co-founded Tap & Mallet with Casey Walpert.
