Syracuse, N.Y. -- The first day of fall in Upstate New York will feel a lot like summer, with rains that could be heavy enough to cause flash flooding. “A moist system is forecast to bring a soaking rain to the area during the second half of the work week, especially Thursday through Thursday night,” the National Weather Service office in Binghamton said. “About 1 to 2 inches of rain appears likely, though localized higher excessive amounts could occur depending on the speed of the system.”

Granby fire tears through multi-family home

GRANBY — An early morning fire ripped through an apartment building in Granby on Friday, displacing more than a half-dozen residents of the four-unit dwelling. Firefighters said the early morning blaze engulfed an apartment building, located at 1085 state Route 176 in Granby, between the intersections with Jacksonville Road and Chipper Drive. Officials said all occupants of the building were evacuated and no injuries were reported, in part due to an observant passerby.

AUBURN. N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY will bring back the Howl-O-Ween Pet Walk and Parade on Sunday, October 10 this year. The annual event couldn’t take place in 2020 due to the pandemic, but now it’s coming back better than ever to raise funds for the animal shelter. Marcellus nature center announces virtual 5K

Baltimore Woods Nature Center in Marcellus will hold its sixth annual 5K Run for the Woods virtually between Sept. 22 and Oct. 6. Participants can sign up and run or walk at a time or place that works best for them. There is also an optional 5K course at the center, 4077 Bishop Hill Road, Marcellus. Participants will then upload their times and compete for prizes.

Syracuse Airport concludes main runway rehab project ahead of schedule

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WWTI) — The main runway rehabilitation project is complete at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport. The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority announced on Friday that construction on the “Runway 10-28 Rehabilitation Project” has been completed ahead of schedule. This project was a five-month undertaking and saw the remediation and reconstruction of the primary runway at the Syracuse Hancock International Airport.

Syracuse’s first cat café, Pawsitivitea CNY Café, and Cat Lounge are celebrating their one-year anniversary. The café and lounge opened in September of 2020 and was an idea inspired when owner Alicia Reynolds took a trip to Virginia. To celebrate the milestone Reynolds is hosting a “Paws and Reflect Silent Auction Anniversary Event” on Sunday, September 19th. Reconstruction of Syracuse Hancock International Airport’s main runway was completed ahead of schedule on Friday, and flight patterns at the airport returned to normal, the Syracuse Regional Airport Authority announced.

Finger Lakes SPCA: Young cat Cisco is friendly and fabulous

Every Friday, The Citizen features a pet available for adoption from the Finger Lakes SPCA of Central New York. This week, we spotlight Cisco. Our sweet kitten Cisco arrived at the shelter as a stray surrender. He was found abandoned with his five littermates. It took a while to bring him back to health but Cisco is now a bright, active, energetic teenager waiting for his new family to find him. He hopes it's soon.
