Five face Wood River forgery charges

EDWARDSVILLE — Five people were charged Wednesday with multiple counts of forgery after targeting a Wood River neighborhood market in July and August. Mariah R Fearn, 27, and Kenneth G. Sanders, 38, both of Wood River, and Aaron R. Pruitt, 23, of St. Charles, Missouri, were each charged with one count of forgery, all Class 3 felonies.

St. Louis County officer witnesses shooting in St. Louis City

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis County police officer witnessed a shooting in St. Louis City Friday morning. According to county police, the St. Louis County Special Response Unit officer saw a shooting at Marcus and Natural Bridge around 9:20 a.m. and requested St. Louis City officers. A brief pursuit was initiated, and when it concluded two suspects were taken into custody.

Alton man charged with child porn

EDWARDSVILLE — An Alton man was charged with multiple counts of child pornography Thursday after an investigation by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville police. Kendrick Hunter, 33, of Alton, was charged with three counts of child pornography, all Class X felonies, and two counts of child pornography, all Class 2 felonies. The case was presented by SIUE police.

Cedar Hill woman, 75, killed in Jefferson County crash

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A 75-year-old woman from Cedar Hill was killed when her car crashed into a traffic signal in Jefferson County Thursday afternoon. Johnine Ellis’ 2012 Chrysler 200 drove off of westbound Highway 30 east of High Ridge Boulevard and crashed into an electric traffic signal post around 2:40 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the crash scene.

Man shot and killed by Festus homeowner during apparent burglary

FESTUS, Mo. — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s office says a homeowner shot and killed a man who apparently was trying to commit a burglary. Sheriff’s deputies who were called to a home near Festus early Thursday found 36-year-old Wayne Roam, of House Springs, dead on the porch. Court documents say the homeowner told investigators he heard a knock on the door and got his gun because someone was trying to enter the house.

Native American statue removed from Cherokee Street

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A prominent statue marking the Cherokee Street business district has been removed. The 21-foot-tall statue was dedicated in 1985 as a way for the district to distinguish itself. Now local businesses say that it, “does not appropriately honor the indigenous communities that have called this land home.” Its new home will be at the National Building Arts Center located in Sauget, Illinois.
