Driver ejected in fatal crash on Shepard Road in St. Paul

The driver of a single-vehicle crash in St. Paul was killed and a passenger was injured early Sunday morning. Saint Paul police. Sgt. Mike Ernster said the driver of the Dodge Ram was eastbound on Shepard Road around 2:15 a.m. when he went off the right side of the road and crashed into a fence and bridge supports beneath the Robert Street Bridge.

Mohamed Noor to be released from prison Monday

MINNEAPOLIS -- A former Minneapolis officer who shot and killed a woman is preparing to be released from prison Monday.Mohamed Noor's release comes just under five years after the deadly shooting that landed him behind bars.The 36-year-old former Minneapolis police officer was transferred to an undisclosed facility last week in preparation for Monday's release.Noor has been serving his sentence out of state in connection with the 2017 shooting death of Justine Rusczcyk Damond.Ultimately, the Minnesota Supreme Court tossed out his murder conviction and resentenced him to four years and nine monthsfor manslaughter.Noor served part of his time at Minnesota's maximum security prison in Oak Park Heights, but was transferred to a facility in North Dakota for safety in 2019.Right now, it's unclear exactly where he's being held out of state, or if he will return to Minnesota.According to the Department of Correction's website, Noor will be on supervised release until January 24, 2024.

Four shot, none arrested in "chaotic scene" at Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Four people were injured during a shooting near the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. Police say multiple shots were reported just after 11:00 P-M Saturday and officers arrived to find a chaotic scene. Multiple fights broke out among the large crowd gathered in the area. Investigators are unsure if there is any relation between the four people injured. The incident happened just as a crowd of people had gathered, but say it was not a scheduled event.

Trial begins Monday for man accused of shooting youth baseball coach to death on Highway 169

(Minneapolis, MN) -- The trial of accused Highway 169 shooter Jamal Smith is getting underway. Jury selection in the case starts today. Smith is charged with first-degree murder in the death of youth baseball coach Jay Boughton in July 2021. Investigators say Smith shot Boughton following traffic dispute while their vehicles were traveling down the highway in Plymouth. Boughton was struck in the head and died in the vehicle.

Study shows 51 percent of nurses consider changing jobs in the next year

(St. Paul, MN) -- A new national study from the University of Illinois shows that 51-percent of surveyed nurses considered leaving the profession within the next year. Mary Turner with the Minnesota Nurses Association (M-N-A) calls the results “extremely alarming.” She says short staffing and moral distress are among the top reasons given for nurses wanting to leave. The study of 22-hundred registered nurses working in hospitals, conducted last fall, found 95 percent had experienced moral distress -- largely due to the pandemic. Only 15 percent of nurses surveyed felt staffing levels in their workplace were safe.

Highway 169 shooting: Trial begins for alleged gunman

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The high-profile trial for the man accused of fatally shooting youth baseball coach Jay Boughton on Highway 169 last July will begin on Monday. Jamal Smith, 34, is charged with first-degree murder in connection to the July 6, 2021, shooting on the Plymouth highway. He's also charged with second-degree murder for a drive-by shooting and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Noor released from prison Monday

(Minneapolis, MN) -- Former Minneapolis police officer Mohamed Noor is being released from custody today. Noor served time after being convicted in the 2017 shooting death of a woman while responding to a 911 call she had made. A judge sentenced him to four years after the state Supreme Court overturned his original conviction for third-degree murder. Noor will serve the remaining year-and-a-half of his sentence on supervised release.

Twins take series from Rockies

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins took an early 5-1 lead and hung on to beat the Colorado Rockies 6-3 Sunday afternoon. The win cliched a series victory for Minnesota. Former Twin C-J Cron gave Colorado an early lead with a first inning double, but the Twins quickly responded in the bottom of the first when Max Kepler, Alex Kirilloff and Gio Urshela all drove in runs with RBI singles. In the bottom of the second Byron Buxton’s triple scored Luis Arraez and Carlos Correa drove a sac fly to center to score Buxton. After Colorado picked up runs in the third and fourth to cut the lad to 5-3, Max Kepler doubled how Buxton in the seventh for a key insurance run. Joe Ryan started for the Twins and allowed three runs on eight hits over five innings. Four relievers combined to allow just four hits and hold the Rockies scoreless over the final four innings. Minnesota is now two games clear of Cleveland for first place in the A-L Central. The Twins and Guardians open a key series in Cleveland tonight.s.

(KNSI) — The suspect accused of shooting and killing a father in front of his teenage son last summer in an alleged road rage incident is on trial starting Monday. Jamal Smith is charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors say Smith shot at Jay Boughton as the two men were traveling in separate vehicles on Highway 169 through Plymouth on July 6th, 2021.

Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series Competes At Tomah/Sparta Speedway

The Upper Midwest Vintage Racing Series traveled to Tomah/Sparta Speedway last Friday for their second race of the season. The traveling series went from their largest track at the Milwaukee Mile to their shortest track at Tomah and when it was over, Jim Kulseth of Rosemount,Minnesota was the winner in the feature. Heat race winners were Ken Christianson of LaCrosse picking up heat number 1 over Justin Jessop of Black RIver Falls. Heat number 2 went to Kulseth with Sean Herzog of Wausau finishing second. Next race on the Upper Midwest Vintage schedule is July 9th at Marshfield Motor Speedway for the annual John Brevik Memorial race.
