Loaded gun found during traffic stop

Police recovered a loaded gun and arrested a man for unlawful use of a weapon early Saturday morning outside of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus. At about 4:21 a.m. Saturday, a U. of I. police officer was engaged in speed enforcement in the 300 block of University Avenue, Champaign, when he observed a vehicle traveling 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle near University Avenue and Neil Street.

Ford County tax bills expected to be in mail by end of next week

PAXTON — Ford County Treasurer Krisha Shoemaker said Monday that she expects to mail 2021 property tax bills to landowners by the end of next week. Shoemaker said she planned to send the computer files containing the bills — all 10,000-plus of them — to the company that will print them on either Tuesday or Wednesday. After they are printed, she will mail them.

Monkeypox Detected At Illinois Daycare As Worker Gets Infected: How At Risk Are Children?

A number of children at a daycare in central Illinois may have been exposed to monkeypox as a worker at the facility has tested positive for the virus. While it was unclear how many children may have been exposed to the virus at the Rantoul, Illinois, daycare, the Food and Drug Administration has cleared those under the age of 18 to receive the monkeypox vaccine with their guardian's permission under a special circumstance, Illinois health director, Sameer Vohra, said, as reported by NBC News.
