Local leaders say area seeing worst COVID numbers yet, vaccinations need to increase

"If you don’t think COVID’s real, I don’t know where you’re living at," Knox County Judge-Executive Mike Mitchell said. Mitchell, along with Whitley County Judge-Executive Pat White Jr. and Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus, said in interviews with The Times-Tribune Friday that the vaccine is the way our communities can bring the COVID-19 numbers down and try to get past this pandemic.

National Guard helping out at AdventHealth

AdventHealth of Manchester has National Guard members helping them out during the recent COVID-19 surge. The responsibilities and duties of this National Guard team will include answering phone calls in different departments; answering call lights for nursing units; moving equipment; screening patients and visitors under current COVID-19 screening guidelines; communicating visitor restrictions; directing visitors to their destination; assisting with security needs; stocking supplies; transport of stable patients; delivering blankets, food, and water; and other non-clinical duties.

City Council Votes to Not Change Tax Rate

The Booneville Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Nelson Bobrowski. A motion was made and carried to approve the minutes from the regular session, on August 11, 2021, and the two special sessions, on August 16 and 19, 2021. The mayor read a letter from a couple that wanted to express their thanks to the people that helped rescue them during the flood back in March.

Third employee at Lee County Elementary School dies of COVID-19

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lee County Elementary School counselor Rhonda Estes died Monday from COVID-19, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. In a statement to the newspaper, Superintendent Sarah Wasson said, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm we have lost a dear friend and colleague this afternoon due to a covid related illness. Our elementary guidance counselor, Ms. Rhonda Estes, was a special part of the Lee County (Schools) family for over 31 years. We send our deepest condolences to her family. Our staff and community are heartbroken and we ask for your prayers as well as some space and time to grieve in this most difficult situation.”
