3 Kentucky State Police troopers indicted on federal charges

LONDON, Ky. (AP) — A federal indictment accuses current and former Kentucky State Police troopers of using excessive force during an arrest and conspiring to cover it up, authorities said. A grand jury in London indicted Kentucky State Troopers Jeremy Elliotte, 28; Michael L. Howell, 32; and former Trooper Derrek Lovett, 30, according to a statement Wednesday from U.S. Attorney Carlton S. Shier. The indictment alleges that Elliotte and Lovett assaulted and injured a victim without justification, the statement said. It says Elliotte, Lovett and Howell then conspired to conceal the force and the circumstances under which they used it. Howell was previously indicted in June for conspiracy and obstruction charges, but the superseding indictment charges all three men with conspiracy and with trying to prevent communication of information to federal law enforcement about the alleged offenses, the statement said.

Baptist Health Corbin Eases Some COVID Restrictions

For the past two years, for elective surgeries and procedures at many hospitals, you would need to get a COVID-19 test. Baptist Health Corbin is now changing those restrictions. Officials say they are following trends across the state and country with COVID protocol. The outpatient COVID-19 screening center at the hospital is shutting down as many people believe the coronavirus is becoming an endemic instead of a pandemic. Baptist Health Corbin has also seen a steep drop in numbers of COVID patients compared to the past year. Officials say the hospital is seeing less than 15 COVID patients at a time compared to close to 70 in 2021. Officials said you will still need a negative test if you are going to be admitted to the hospital.
