Girl’s day at the capitol

Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Tori Johnston was the special guest speaker of state Rep. Jill Ford at Girl’s Day at The Capitol this year. Girl’s Day is something that Rep. Ford started her first year in the Legislature when she invited young girls from Madison County to tour their State Capitol and learn about legislation. Her passion is to build a desire in these young ladies to one day serve their state by running for public office.

Balloon Glow celebrating America happening July 2

Ridgeland Recreation and Parks is putting on a balloon glow in honor of the Fourth of July . The balloon glow will take place on Friday, July 2 at Northpark Mall. This Fourth of July celebration offers hot air balloons glowing at dusk, musical acts, children’s activities, food vendors, and a patriotic finish to the night with fireworks.

Gluckstadt officials now official

The new mayor called it both an end and a beginning during a formal certificate of incorporation signing ceremony for the city of Gluckstadt last week. In addition to the certificate of incorporation, Secretary of State Michael Watson officially recognized Mayor Walter Morrison and the five aldermen who will initially serve at-large terms, Miya Warfield-Bates, John Taylor, Jayce Powell, Wesley Slay and Lisa Williams during the ceremony June 9.

Burger chain coming to G’stadt

GLUCKSTADT — A national burger chain is working to bring a new location to Gluckstadt Road with an anticipated opening date by the end of the summer. Wayback Burger has a proposed Gluckstadt location at 1091 Gluckstadt Road Suite E. This will be the national chain’s second location in the state.
