Mother alleges Alton Memorial staff ignored pregnancy complications, resulting in her baby's death

EDWARDSVILLE — A woman alleges Alton Memorial Hospital staff's failure to properly treat her condition during her pregnancy and labor resulted in the death of her baby. Shantela Stackhouse, individually and as independent administrator of the Estate of Carter Damas Moore, filed a complaint July 22 in the Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Memorial Hospital, Diane M. Lahey, R.N., Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation Inc., Dr. Geoffrey Lowell Turner and Dr. Jamie L. Hardman, alleging medical malpractice and wrongful death.

Madison County's revamped Section 8 department continues to expand

The Madison County Housing Authority, one of three housing authorities in Madison County, recently revamped its Section 8 housing department. New director Tracy Deck took over control of the department in June and the department's almost entirely new staff has begun rapid expansion of the people helped by the department in finding affordable housing.

More substitute teachers sought in Riverbend area

ALTON — With school in Madison County starting again in the next week or two, school districts are looking to fill spots for substitute teachers. The Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools’ 2020 Educator Shortage Survey found 77% of Illinois school districts reported having a teacher shortage problem, and 93% of districts report having a substitute teacher shortage problem.

Illinois launches COVID-19 tracker for long-term care facilities

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced on Wednesday that COVID-19 vaccination data for both residents and staff in long-term care facilities is now available. With LTC facilities experiencing a significant portion of COVID-19 deaths, especially early on in the pandemic, the resource tracking COVID-19 vaccinations for both staff and residents across the state can be important.

Vaccination clinic today at Alton High School

Vaccines for COVID-19 continue to be offered, but the Madison County Health Department says a clinic today (Wednesday) at Alton High School is not generating the interest they would like to see. Walk-ins are welcome, as the numbers of new cases are causing alarm amongst some keeping an eye on the numbers.

Pritzker mandates masks in day cares, schools

WOOD RIVER — Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Wednesday afternoon mandated masks for all schools, day cares and long term care facilities, public and private. His mandate came one day after Madison County hospitals recorded 39 COVID-19 patients, the most ever for one day since the pandemic began in March 2020.
