NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For Vanderbilt to win its final regular-season series and likely lock up a regional hosting spot in the NCAA Tournament, it will have to take both remaining games against LSU. Flat outings by Devin Futrell and Patrick Reilly on Thursday night put the Commodores in a massive hole that they never got close to climbing out of as LSU beat Vanderbilt 13-2. The Tigers went up 9-0 in the fourth inning and never faced a significant threat. Futrell got just four outs, giving up five runs before making way for Reilly. The hard-throwing righty had no more luck, serving up four more runs while Vanderbilt's lineup posted a so-so night against LSU's Ma'Khail Hilliard.
