Hanceville names new parks director

HANCEVILLE — Hanceville has a new Park and Recreation director, and the city already has some pretty big plans to keep him busy in the year ahead. Mayor Kenneth Nail and the Hanceville City Council introduced David Wasilewski as the city’s new parks director at its regular meeting Tuesday, welcoming Wasilewski, who comes to Hanceville following a 10-year stint at Cullman Parks and Recreation, to his first full week on the job.

Cullman native Elizabeth Miller named as Miss UAB 2022

Elizabeth Miller, a junior from Cullman, Alabama, was crowned Miss University of Alabama at Birmingham 2022 on Nov. 13, when nine candidates competed for the title. Miller, majoring in marketing in the Collat School of Business, also won the Talent Award and Spirit Award. She won a total of $2,600 in scholarships. Miller is the daughter of Paul Miller and Letha Miller.

Holly Pond man hits tree while attemting to elude deputies

MORGAN CO., Ala. (WAFF) - Deputies with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office had a chaotic afternoon tracking down a person that was speeding. Deputies say 46-year-old Jason Craig Hill, of Holly Pond, was driving 87 miles per hour on Highway 67. According to MCSO, deputies lost sight of him and moments later saw the car he was driving had hit a tree.

‘There in a manger’

First Christian Church in Hartselle, 209 E. Main St., presents a live nativity scene in front of the church. The annual event features live animals as well as members of the church dressed as Bible characters. The scene will be staged nightly Dec. 8-11 from 6-7:30 p.m. The public is invited to drive by or walk up to view and pet the animals. This will be the fourth year for the event, which organizers said is designed to draw attention to the true meaning of the season.
