D&J Café burglarized

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — Crime Stoppers is seeking information to help the Springfield Police Department investigate a burglary at D&J Café around 9:43 p.m. on August 5. Police say the suspect broke into the business and swiped $350 in cash, $200 in gift cards, the cash register, and multiple candy bars.

Verbal Clashes Raise City Council Tensions

Things are getting contentious around “the horseshoe,” the nickname for the area where aldermen sit in the Springfield City Council chambers. Alderwoman Lakeisha Purchase issued a call Tuesday night for her colleagues to show more respect to one another. That came after Purchase had a tense exchange a week ago with Alderman Shawn Gregory over who’s causing problems for residents and businesses in some city neighborhoods. Gregory apologized for interrupting Purchase, but said he stands by his comments objecting to her characterizations of homeless people in the area. Meanwhile, a debate over changes to zoning rules for some cannabis businesses became personal when Alderwoman Kristin DiCenso said the issue was being pushed by an alderman whose son has an interest in such a business.

Miles to miss Palmyra Season Opener due to disciplinary action

Palmyra High School announced Wednesday Morning that head football coach Kevin Miles will be serving a one-game leave of absence for a failure of locker room supervision. Miles will be sitting out his team's season opener on August 26th against Hallsville. Tyler Krietemeyer will serve as the team's interim head coach and play caller for that contest.

Springfield, Ill (WAND) – Springfield will soon benefit from another railroad relocation project. This one in the form of a $19.8 million grant for an overpass. The overpass will be over Norfolk Southern and Illinois Midland tracks on North Grand Avenue. The heavily traveled stretch of road on the north end of the city is near Robin Roberts Stadium and Lanphier High School.

A pair of Jacksonville men were arrested yesterday evening after Jacksonville Police were called to a downtown tavern over a physical altercation involving a hammer. Donors Help Rescue Local Animal Rescue in Face of Inflation, Drop in Adoptions

6-year-old in critical condition after two vehicle crash in Sangamon County

SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND)- A 6-year-old boy was airlifted to St. Johns Hospital in critical condition on Wednesday, after a two vehicle crash in Sangamon County. According to police, at 8:42 a.m., Sangamon County Deputies were dispatched to an accident with injuries at the intersection of Cardinal Hill Road and Hunter Road, southeast of Rochester.
