Phyllis Gipson, age 78

Phyllis Gipson, age 78, of Ledbetter, KY formerly of Grand Rivers, passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. Mrs. Gipson was born in Livingston County, KY on January 28, 1943 to the late Troelus, who was in WWII and a purple heart recipient, and Wilma Montgomery. She retired from Lourdes Hospital in 2005 where she worked as a Central Supply Tech. She loved Jesus and her church and was a member of Mint Springs Baptist Church. She was known to listen to sermons and sing gospel hymns on Facebook. Phyllis loved growing and adoring blooming flowers, watching hummingbirds and fishing.

Kentucky State Police Investigating Livingston County Burglary

(May 3, 2021) – Troopers with Kentucky State Police, Post 1 are investigating a burglary that occurred at a residence in Grand Rivers. The burglary reportedly occurred on the morning of Sunday, April 25th, 2021 at a residence in the 100 block of Tom Doom Road. According to video surveillance footage, two black males came on the residential property around 10:36 a.m. and left the property around 10:56 a.m. Video surveillance also shows a black, 4-door, passenger sedan in the immediate area at the time of the burglary. The unknown suspects reportedly stole over $10,000 of collectable coins, bills, and a set of knives from the residence.

Betty was a longtime member of Lamasco Baptist Church and retired as a bank teller with BB&T. She was the previous owner of Tri-State Battery and Queens Castle Laundry. She deeply loved her family, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She loved shopping, was a wonderful cook, and made sure everyone always had plenty to enjoy. Betty was a very talented flower arranger and always thought of others before herself.

Marshall County Sheriff’s OfficeOn Friday at approximately 1 p.m., deputies went to a residence on Hawkeye Lane to serve an arrest warrant. As they made contact with the resident, an explosives device and other illegal items were observed. The discovery prompted an investigation that would last for next several hours. As a result of the investigation, Timothy Hemmer was arrested on the warrant and subsequently charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Controlled Substance (Drug Unspecified). The sheriff’s office was assisted in this investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Paducah Police Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit.
