Boyd sentenced to life without parole

Marlon Boyd of Philadelphia was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following his capital murder conviction in Circuit Court last month,. Boyd, 20, of Philadelphia, was found guilty in the March 20, 2021, slaying death of 27-year-old Desmond Davis of Philadelphia in an early-morning robbery at the Western Motel on south Holland Avenue.

Candlelight vigil held for Dajon Huggins

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - A balloon release and candlelight vigil were held Tuesday for 24-year-old Dajon Huggins, of Meridian, who was killed last Friday. Family and friends gathered at a business on 9th Street to celebrate Huggins’ life. He was found dead inside of a car near 22nd Ave. and 22nd St. Candles were lit and balloons were released. Huggins’ mother said he would have celebrated his birthday in September.

'One in 30 million': Yet another rare orange lobster rescued, this time in Mississippi

For the second time in less than a month, a "1 in 30 million" lobster defied becoming dinner after being saved Monday from a Southern seafood restaurant tank. Last month, a rare orange lobster christened Cheddar was rescued from a Red Lobster in Hollywood, Florida. Named in honor of the chain's signature biscuits, the crustacean soon found haven at Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach.

Whitehead’s love language is cooking

Shannon Whitehead says cooking is one of her favorite pastimes that takes her away from the hustle and bustle of work that she considers a love language. “I love the bonding aspect of cooking and being able to have fun with my family and savor the special moments with them and my friends,” said Whitehead, the new superintendent of the Philadelphia Public Schools. “I love having them over for different occasions, whether it’s a holiday or just celebrating life.”

Make-A-Wish golf tourney Sept. 9

Wish Upon A Par, a golf tournament which will benefit Make-A-Wish Mississippi. Is scheduled for September 9 at the Philadelphia Country Club. Tournament organizers have been discussing the possibility of holding a golf tournament before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was delayed until now. Booker T. Phase 1 almost completed

The first phase of the Booker T. Washington gym renovation project is close to complete, officials said. Philadelphia aldermen were told during last Tuesday’s meeting that the gym floor would be installed once contractors were satisfied with the level of moisture in the building. The second phase will be the installation of new handicapped assessable bathrooms and entrances, and will begin later this year.

Aug. 9 (UPI) -- An orange lobster was found in a shipment that arrived at a Red Lobster restaurant for the second time within a month. Ripley's Aquarium said the orange lobster, dubbed Biscuit, was found in a shipment at a Red Lobster restaurant in Meridian, Miss., and turned over to Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
