Snow, cold temperatures to move into Panhandle

Here is the latest headline update for the Blizzard Warning, Winter Storm Warning, and Winter Weather Advisory! Advisories have been expanded to include more areas, and extended into Sunday morning. An extension through Sunday into Monday may be warranted with additional snow accumulations expected. Snow showers will begin early this morning across Carbon County and spread eastward throughout the day with additional snow showers moving in from the north into Converse, Niobrara, Platte, Goshen, Sioux, and Dawes counties. The heaviest snow is forecast to be Saturday. The second image shows the latest updates for snowfall totals across southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle. Refer to the "speedometers" on the left side to see the overall range for snow totals in light blue, the most likely range for snow totals in the darker blue, and the arrow pointing at the official NWS forecast. Note that these snowfall totals are spread across three days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Local Wheatland student represents Platte County

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Kaidyn Kasun, pictured far right, represented Platte County during the Arizona National Junior Livestock Judging Contest held on Dec. 30 in Phoenix. Kasun judged a total of eight classes, consisting of cattle, swine, sheep, and goats, along with giving two sets of oral reasons. Out of a total of seventy contestants from around the United States, Kaidyn brought home top honors, placing as the Third High Overall Junior Individual.

Viking boys split in weekend hardwood contests

GUERNSEY—The Viking boys basketball team didn’t let a Friday night loss spoil their weekend as they came back on Saturday to claim a 54-39 win over Hanna-Elk Mountain. A talented and deep team, the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers came to Guernsey-Sunrise and shut the Vikings down right from the tip-off, going on to claim a 69-27 win. The Doggers jumped out to a 16-5 lead eight minutes into the game that stretched to a 26-10 lead by halftime. Caleb Christensen led the Viking scorers with 12. Tristan Hohnholt added eight, Aiden Noggle put in five and Jacob Roper hit one bucket.

Sidney Teams Notch Wins Over Torrington

SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams scored impressive wins over Torrington in a make-up game at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility on Tuesday. The game was postponed from December 16, because of weather. The Lady Raiders ran past the Trailblazers 57-25 while the Red Raiders cruised to a 78-42 win.

Fort Laramie Man Succumbed to Injuries in UTV Rollover

FORT LARAMIE — An 84-year-old Fort Laramie man succumbed to injuries he sustained in a UTV crash Wednesday, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP). On January 18 a fatal crash occurred at milepost 29.5 on Highway 26, west of Fort Laramie, Wyoming. At 8:46 a.m., WHP troopers were notified of a UTV rollover on the adjacent Service Road.
