Publishers’ Note

Last week, J.W. Oliver bid farewell to the faithful readers of this newspaper. He will be missed and his departure leaves a big hole to fill, but the news will carry on. J.W. was the ninth editor of the newspaper since the Erskine-Roberts family took over ownership on Dec. 9, 1920. He worked long hours and put a lot of care into reporting, editing, and preserving the history of Lincoln County. He worked as part of a great team, all committed to the people of this community.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office: Three arrests

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to 267 calls for service for the period of June 15 to June 22. Year to date, LCSO has responded to 5,457 calls for service. Brandon E. Amborn, 25, of Warren was issued a summons June 17 for Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, on Medomak Road, Bremen, by Deputy Jonathan Colby.

No New COVID-19 Cases in Lincoln County for First Time in Eight Months

There have been no new cases of COVID-19 identified in Lincoln County residents in the past week, a benchmark not seen since October 2020. According to Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention data current as of Tuesday, June 22, since COVID-19 arrived in Lincoln County in mid-March 2020, 1,078 residents have had the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus — 891 confirmed cases and 187 probable.

Special exhibit of Lincoln County photos at Wiscasset’s Old Jail Museum

The 1811 Lincoln County Museum & Old Jail in Wiscasset opens on July 3 for tours of the granite Jail and Jailer’s House plus a special exhibit of mounted and framed photos of Lincoln County at the beginning of the 20th century. The images were retrieved from 5” x 7” glass plate negatives that belonged to Eastern Publishing Company, a publisher of postcards.

Arsenault town clerk again

Former Alna town clerk Lisa Arsenault is back in the job. Selectmen announced the hire over Zoom Wednesday night, June 23. Clerk Sheila McCarty resigned in February. Second Selectman Linda Kristan said, while Arsenault has been interim clerk this spring, the town office has had good community spirit. “They support each other, they nurture each other and they’re always upbeat and positive.”

Town to talk Middle Bridge repair or replacement with MDOT

Dresden Town Administrator Michael Faass told selectmen Tuesday night, June 22, Maine Department of Transportation plans to repair or replace Middle Bridge. Cal Ripken youth baseball swings into action in Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset

The boys of summer have arrived in Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset this month to settle the score as the top regional youth baseball team. The two Lincoln County towns hosted District 4 Cal Ripken championships for 10 and Under and 12 Under divisions. Cal Ripken Jr. is a Hall of Fame baseball player known for setting the all-time Major League Baseball record for 2,632 consecutive games played. This year, Midcoast Baseball, which includes players for the Boothbay region, Wiscasset and Richmond, hosted both local tournaments. “We had two venues with lights so we thought why not host the tournament,” said John Splaine of Boothbay Harbor.
