Limestone County man barricaded his three children, girlfriend in standoff

LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF) - On Saturday, Limestone County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a shooting on the 24000 Block of Craft Road. After Ryan Matthew Guenther arrived home he got into an argument with another male subject at the residence. Guenther pulled out a pistol and shot the male in the leg. Guenther also pointed the gun at his girlfriend and assaulted her.

Tanner fire truck a complete loss after theft and wreck, but department says it won't affect service

A volunteer fire department in Limestone County is now without one of its fire trucks after a Meridianville man stole and wrecked it Sunday morning. It amounts to a $200,000 loss for the Tanner Volunteer Fire Department and up to a year of waiting if they have to order a new one, but Tanner VFD President Derrick Gatlin doesn't think it will affect the department's ability to serve its community.

Alabama prison warden, on leave for alleged ‘sexual misconduct,’ retires

Deborah Toney, the embattled warden of Alabama’s largest prison who was placed on administrative leave in March, has retired. The Alabama Department of Corrections on Friday confirmed Toney’s retirement. She was the warden at Limestone Correctional Facility in Limestone County about 18 miles northwest of downtown Huntsville. Toney’s retirement was effective Aug. 1.

West Limestone High School’s construction continues as students return to class

LIMESTONE Co., Ala. (WAFF) - Limestone County students returned to school Monday and some students are heading back to classes that are still under construction. West Limestone High School Principal Russ Cleveland said students will see a lot of changes to their entire school as it undergoes renovation.
