Moss sentenced to 25 years in fatal wreck

An Athens man convicted of killing one person and severely injuring another while driving under the influence has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, records show. Scotty Dale Moss had been indicted on one count of reckless murder for the death of Lloyd Jason Reed in October 2018 and first-degree assault for injuries suffered by Reed's teenage stepdaughter, Sadie Norman. He was convicted May 20 on the assault charge and DUI (alcohol), but the jury opted to convict him of reckless manslaughter instead of murder.

Limestone County students to attend Boys State

It is happening again. The 84th annual Boys State, sponsored by the American Legion Department of Alabama, will convene July 11–17 at The University of Alabama. After a cancellation year in 2020 due to COVID-19, everyone involved in the program is looking forward to this year’s “restart,” according to Yancy Mitchell, Boy’s State Dean of Counselors and the principal briefer for the Limestone County delegates assembled Monday at the Alabama Veteran’s Museum. This year, there will be 11 Limestone County delegates attending Boys State.

CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER: Local nonprofit partnering with BWW on fundraiser

Residents of Athens and Limestone County will soon have the chance to have a night out for dinner also help a good cause. The Limestone Child Advocacy Center is partnering with Buffalo Wild Wings in Athens, 22099 U.S. 72 E., for a fundraiser. From 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, anyone who purchases a meal at BWW can present their waiter with a specific ticket, and 15% of their total bill, not including tax, gratuity or promotional discounts, will be donated to Limestone CAC.

Free summer movies return at Cinemagic

Cinemagic Theatre has announced the return of its free movie series for children and their families. Starting Tuesday and continuing each Tuesday through July 27, families can enjoy one of six movies at the movie theater on South Jefferson Street in Athens.
