North Wilkesboro Speedway cancels event due to supply chain issues

WILKESBORO, N.C. (WBTV) - Due to supply chain issues and race tire shortage, the North Wilkesboro Speedway has canceled one of its events this month. The Racetrack Revival event scheduled for Aug. 19-20 has been canceled and all fans who purchased tickets, pit passes or camping spots will automatically receive a full refund.

BANNER ELK — Banner Elk Town Council met for its regular scheduled meeting on Monday, Aug. 8, to have public hearings for rezoning requests and discuss amendments to ordinances. Swanson Road closed to through traffic next week

Swanson Road in the Joyceton area of Lenoir will be closed to through traffic all next week. Public Works staff are replacing a storm drain across the road. The storm drain, located at 413 Swanson Rd., is old and needs repair. The road will be closed at that location from 8:00 am Monday, Aug. 15, 2022, to Friday, Aug. 19, weather permitting. Drivers will not be able to cross this section of road while staff are working in the area.

Third Art on the Greene welcomes more than 40 vendors to Banner Elk

BANNER ELK — The third Art on the Greene of this summer took place on Aug. 6 and 7 at the Historic Banner Elk School. Forty-three vendors set up booths despite the rainy weather, selling a variety of goods, from soaps to paintings to yard decorations and more. According to the Town of Banner Elk’s website, profits from the shows are used for restoration of the historic school, which is home to the Banner Elk Artists Gallery, Ensemble Stage professional theater and a community book exchange. This year’s final Art on the Greene will take place Labor Day weekend. Art on the Greene has no admission fee and vendors are set up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

NEWLAND — The 17th annual Avery County Vikings Baseball Camp took place from Aug. 1 to 4, finishing out the summer sports camps offered at the Avery County Parks and Recreation Department.
