Junction 92 Project Approved by Board of Supervisors

The Marion County Board of Supervisors approved moving forward with the Junction 92 Shop Project for the Marion County Road Department. It has been an ongoing project since it was first discussed in 2004. A salt shed was built at the site in 2006. Construction costs are $8.5 million. It will be merging three county shops into one and there will be a large number of benefits when done. It will close the county shops for Clay Township, the central shop in Knoxville and Pella.

Advised to Get Flu Shots Early

Marion County Public Health Nurse Judi Van Hulzen advises people to get their flu shots earlier this year. Van Hulzen tells KNIA/KRLS News, “When I talk influenza I’m not talking about the 24 to 48 hour stomach bug that some people get and say I have the flu. That’s not the flu. Influenza is a serious upper respiratory virus that can lead to pneumonia and death and it does in several people.”

MercyOne Newton asks county for $2M donation

MercyOne Newton Medical Center may receive American Rescue Plan Act funds from Jasper County to go towards facility improvements. During the Sept. 27 county board of supervisors meeting, Chad Kelley, director of operations for MercyOne Newton, formally requested the hospital at least be considered to receive ARPA funding. Specifically, the hospital asked for a $2 million gift for a $6 million emergency room enhancement project.

The Sigourney Savages volleyball team used strong defense to defeat Montezuma in straight sets Thursday night. After edging out Montezuma in the first set 25-23, Sigourney held on in the second 25-19 and pulled away in the final set 25-12.
