Man attempts to steal syringes, needles from CVS

SOUTH WINDSOR — A Manchester man was charged with breaking into a local CVS pharmacy to steal three syringes and safety needles on Nov. 24. South Windsor police were dispatched to the CVS at 525 Buckland Road for reports of a man breaking into the gated pharmacy area, which was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Manchester man killed in crash over holiday weekend

State police responded to more than 400 accidents over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, including one that killed a Manchester resident. On Saturday, Tajay Walsh was killed when the car in which he was a passenger ran off the road onto a grass embankment and collided with a tree on Route 15 southbound in Wallingford, one mile north of Exit 66.

Norwich has the most opioid-related deaths in New London County. What's being done?

Norwich has seen the most opioid-related overdose deaths in New London County since 2015, in a county with the fourth-highest number of such deaths in the state. Both the county’s health districts are in the top ten for overdose deaths for that time period, with 349 in the Uncas Health District’s area, and 329 in Ledge Light Health District’s area, according to data from the Connecticut Department of Health.

CISS Thanksgiving Luncheon held for everyone in UConn during the break

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Center for International Students and Scholars office held the CISS Thanksgiving Luncheon. The event ran from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with many students, scholars and staff in attendance. During the event, students enjoyed the time eating food, talking with one another and telling stories about Thanksgiving day in their countries.

Police identify man found dead in Norwich mobile home

Norwich ― Norwich police on Friday identified the man found dead beneath a collapsed floor of a mobile home as the 82-year-old sole resident of the dilapidated home. John Jordan, 82, lived alone in the mobile home in the Little Valley Mobile Home Park at 303 Mohegan Park Road, Norwich police Lt. Christopher Merrill said Friday.

Clingan lifts UConn past Iowa State for Phil Knight title

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Donovan Clingan had 15 points and 10 rebounds to power No. 20 UConn to a 71-53 win over Iowa State in the championship game of the Phil Knight Invitational on Sunday night. Tristen Newton scored 13 points for the Huskies (8-0), who went 20 for 25 at the free-throw line. Alex Karaban and Andre Jackson, Jr. each had 10 points. Osun Osunniyi led Iowa State (5-1) with 14 points. Tamin Lipsey had 12 points and Jaren Holmes finished with 11. “They were the more aggressive team,” Iowa State coach T.J. Otzelberger said. “We wanted a physical game. We didn’t want a physical game with them getting the rebounds and then also us putting them on the foul line. Lesson that we’ve got to learn is we need to embrace being the aggressor at both ends of the floor at all times.”

Firehouse boiler to be replaced

BEACON FALLS — The boiler at the Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 firehouse went down and is being replaced. Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 Chief Brian DeGeorge said the boiler from 2000 went down in the beginning of November after the firehouse’s regular servicemen confirmed that the boiler’s internal chambers were cracked. The new boiler is currently being installed because it’s an immediate priority, DeGeorge added.
