LORETTO, TENNESSEE — Frances Ann “Peggy’ Kerstiens, age 89, of Loretto, TN passed away Monday June 21, 2021 at home after a brief illness. She was a native of Lawrence County, TN, and a member of Sacred Heart Church. Peggy was known to her family as mammaw. She was a homemaker, loved her family, loved to travel, enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlework, and gardening. Peggy was a member of the Alter Society for many years.

Leoma Man Killed in Wayne County Crash

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said a Lawrence County man was killed in an off-road crash in Wayne County late Thursday night, June 17th. The THP said that a 1993 Chevy Silverado was off-road in steep terrain when the vehicle reportedly overturned several times down a steep embankment near Duck Town Road in Iron City. Lawrence County emergency crews with specialized training in rapelling were dispatched to the scene.

Barbara Jean Davis Howell, age 80, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021, at her home surrounded by family following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. She was a native of Lawrence County; raised feeder pigs in her younger days, was a beautician for 18 years, a wood worker, and a published author throughout her lifetime. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lawrenceburg.

Glenda was born September 22, 1943 to the late Charles Calvin "Dick" Newton and Mary Velma Greene Newton and was a Bus Driver for the Lawrence County School system for over 47 years. Survivors include her husband, Gene Austin Myers of Fall River, her daughter Tisha Kelly and husband Dwayne of Lawrenceburg, her granddaughters, Jessica Wright and husband Josh, and Katie Powell, her great granddaughter, Bryleigh, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Carr & Erwin Funeral Home, with Funeral Services beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Kenneth Chance , age 94 of Athens, AL passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at home. He was a native of Lawrence County, TN, owner of Kenney's shoe store for 27 years located where Prestons Restaurant is now, retired in 1992 from Leoma postal service, a rural letter carrier of 25 years in between being a shoe salesman and a mail man he was a Volunteer Fireman for Leoma Fire Department Leoma,TN. Kenneth went to about all the singings Sunday afternoon and Sunday night at different churches and a lot of state singing conventions. Once at a county singing it was time to elect officer, the nomination started for president Ray was about 6 years old sitting back in the audience by a pretty girl as usual he spoke up and said i nominate daddy. Of course, he got a lot of applause and a lot of seconds then the nomination closed and Kenneth was elected president of the county singing convention. Funeral Services will be held at Loretto Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 1:00 pm. Bro. T. R. Williams and Bro. Donald Terry will be officiating. Burial will follow in Center Point Methodist Cemetery.
