(EFFINGHAM) One of the drivers that died in the early Saturday morning traffic crash in Lawrence County has been identified. The 19 year old man was Drake Josef Hill of Clay City. Hill and the still unidentified other drive from Texas were involved in a head-on collision along Illinois Route 1 in Lawrence County.

(LAWRENCEVILLE) The investigation also continues into a two vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 5:55 early Saturday morning in Lawrence County, along Illinois Route 1, near the intersection with East Lawrence Avenue. The Illinois State Police report an unidentified 19 year old man from Clay City was southbound on Route 1 when for unknown reasons his car crossed the centerline and struck head-on a northbound pickup truck, driven by an unidentified 57 year old man from Pflugerville, Texas. Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene as Route 1 was completely closed for over six hours until cleanup. Both men remain unidentified until the next of kin notifications have been completed.

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Two people died in a car collision around 6 a.m. Saturday morning on Illinois Route 1 near Lawrence Avenue in Lawrence County, Ill. According to a police report, a 19-year-old male from Clay City, Ill., was driving a 1999 Gold Lincoln Town Car south on Illinois Route 1 when he crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a 1997 Maroon Chevrolet Truck that then caught on fire. Both the 19-year-old male and the driver of the truck, a 57-year-old man from Texas, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Lawrence County Coroner, police said.

A 19-year-old Clay City man was one of two killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Illinois Route 1 in Lawrence County. State Police say a preliminary investigation indicates the Clay City man for unknown reasons crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming truck driven by a 57-year-old man from Pflugerville, Texas. After impact, the truck driven by the Texas man caught fire. Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene. Names have not been released pending notification of family.

Monday Manhunt brings Mt. Vernon man into custody for stolen vehicle and aggravated battery charges

LAWRENCE COUNTY, IL — A massive manhunt in Southern Illinois has led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Mt. Vernon man. Illinois State Police sent out an officer safety bulletin shortly before 5 p.m. Monday referencing a stolen vehicle and aggravated battery with a firearm in White County. At the time, the subject was believed to be armed with a shotgun. The subject’s vehicle was spotted by Mt Carmel Police, who attempted a traffic stop. Police say Ashton T. Harper, 27, of Mt Vernon, then reportedly led them on a chase through several fields and tree lines before stopping in a shed and then fleeing on foot.
