Woman arrested after early trick-or-treating attempt in Abilene

ABILENE, Texas — Halloween is just about a month away, but residents in one northwest Abilene neighborhood had an early visit from a trick-or-treater. Abilene police say they got several calls from residents on Minter Lane about a woman who was ringing doorbells and demanding Halloween candy. Residents also complained she was yelling profanities.

East Texas Woman Killed in a High Speed Crash Monday Near Baird

Structure Fire: 1100 Block of Ash Street

On September 27, 2022 at approximately 1:00 p.m. the Abilene Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire located in the 1100 block of Ash Street. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames venting from a kitchen window. One occupant was home at the time of the incident and was able to exit the structure. The fire was quickly controlled and extinguished without incident. Investigation revealed the cause of the fire was accidental due to a cooking fire. Damages are estimated at $10,000.

COVID-19 on decline, but new booster shots encouraged by Abilene health officials

COVID-19 numbers are declining in Taylor County in recent reports, and that's encouraging news for local health officials. “Hendrick Health continues to admit COVID-19 positive patients, but we are encouraged by the trend at this time," said Dr. Rob Wiley, Hendrick Health's chief medical officer. The Swenson House was built in 1910 by W.G. and Shirley Swenson. The house was built on 58 acres but now sits on a two-acre city block. Today, the Swenson House is on the Register of Historic Places and is currently used for weddings, receptions, parties, and of course, Haunted Abilene.
