Hallettsville art gallery to celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday

HALLETTSVILLE, Texas – An art gallery in Hallettsville will celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday by featuring Texas and local artists. Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of Black Americans who were enslaved in the United States. The holiday is special to Texas because it wasn’t until June 19, 1865 that slaves living in the Lone Star State learned of the official end of slavery, which occurred when the Emancipation Declaration became effective on January 1, 1863.
