Northwest Iowa woman & Her Newborn Die After Roll-Over Wreck

(Peterson, IA) — A northwest Iowa woman and her newborn child have died after a single-vehicle crash near Peterson. The accident happened early Tuesday evening on a county road three miles north of Peterson. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Courtney Engeltjes of Everly left the roadway, overcorrected and her S-U-V rolled over into a ditch. Engeltjes and her newborn daughter were both taken to Spencer Hospital and later air lifted to another hospital where they died from their injuries.

Spencer Teen Escapes Injury in Rollover Crash

Spencer, IA (KICD)– A Spencer teenager escaped injury after being involved in a single-vehicle rollover east of town Wednesday morning. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says the 15-year-old female was eastbound on 330th Street a short distance past the east bypass when her vehicle began to fishtail after crossing a bridge.

Escaped rodeo bulls evade capture for weeks in Iowa

Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Residents of an Iowa county are trying to locate three bulls that escaped from a rodeo and have evaded capture for more than three weeks. A total five bulls initially escaped from the T&C Rodeo Company in Fonda on Sept. 3, and two of the animals were later caught.

Two People Facing Charges After Clay County Traffic Stop

(Dickens)--Two people are facing charges after a traffic stop this past Sunday on Highway 18 near Dickens. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says shortly before 10 a.m., a deputy witnessed the driver and a front passenger switch places while waiting for the vehicle to pull over. The deputy made contact with the male in the passenger seat, identified as 27-year-old Chase Kounkel of LeMars. It was determined Kounkel had a barred driver’s license. He was charged with driving while barred, two counts of child endangerment, speeding, reckless driving, tint, no seatbelt, driving under suspension and failure to file S.R. Insurance. He was released after posting bond.

55-year-old Texas man pleads not guilty of attempted murder in Storm Lake

STORM LAKE, Iowa — A Texas man has pleaded not guilty of trying to kill another man in a Storm Lake hotel room. Miguel Garcia-Montelongo, 55, of Monte Alto, Texas, entered his written plea Friday in Buena Vista County District Court to charges of attempted murder, willful injury resulting in serious injury, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Clay County woman life-flighted after one vehicle rollover

CLAY CO., Iowa (KTIV) - An Everly, Iowa woman has been life-flighted following a single vehicle rollover accident in the evening hours of Tuesday, Sept. 27. According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Courtney Engeltjes, was traveling southbound on County Road M-27 when the vehicle left the roadway. Engeltjes overcorrected and entered the east ditch, with the vehicle coming to a rest on the driver’s side.

Spencer, Ia (KICD) – It’s Football Friday for the Spencer Tigers. Let’s take look at their opponent tonight, the Fort Dodge Dodgers. Fort Dodge has one of the longest Football Histories in the State of Iowa. The Dodgers are one of the current 4A schools that were playing in 4A before realignment 2 years ago. Their best era was in the late 70s and early 80s when only 8 teams were making it to the playoffs. They made it to the Playoffs 3 times in 8 years during that era, and would go as far as the Semi-Finals in 1978. Since then it has been lot of first round exits for the Dodgers when the qualify. When the Playoffs were at 32 teams the Dodgers never made it in to the round of 16.

Phone Scam Circulating That Shows Caller ID Number as BV County Sheriff's Office

The Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office has recently received multiple reports of scam calls with the caller ID indicating the phone number is that of the sheriff's office. The calls are coming up showing that they are 749-2530. According to BV County Sheriff Kory Elston, in one call the scammer told the individual that she failed to show up to court as ordered by a subpoena, and that she needed to post a three-thousand dollar bond in order to stay out of jail.

Spencer, IA (KICD) — One of the latest additions to staff at Spencer Schools was Angela Hanson, who joined the district in July as the Director of School Improvement. Hanson grew up and spent the first years of her career teaching in Des Moines. She then moved to Southern Iowa with her husband to start their family, where she taught in Osceola for 15 years. She decided she was ready to take the next step in her career while teaching at Oskaloosa.

Goyne-Yarns Found Competent to Stand Trial

(Spirit Lake)– A Jackson, Minnesota man accused of fatally shooting a woman in February outside her workplace in Milford has been found competent to stand trial. Christian Goyne-Yarns was charged with 1st degree murder in the death of Shelby Woizeschke. He is accused of shooting Woizeschke of Spencer in the parking lot at GrapeTree Medical Staffing on February 3rd as she arrived for work. Woizeschke died three days later in a Sioux Falls hospital.

City officials tour Spencer facilities

Several Spencer city officials participated in a tour of some of the city’s facilities in a special Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday. The tour was prompted by facilities study from ISG the city had done to determine what improvements facilities will need.
