The Lawrence Unit #20 Board of Education met in regular monthly session Wednesday at Lawrenceville High School. Upon recommendation of Superintendent Doug Daugherty, they did approve a 2 year contract with the East Lawrence Education Association (ELEA). The deal increases pay 5.89% for both years and also includes raises in insurance coverage. Daugherty indicated that the union had ratified the deal. The board also approved the adoption of a tenative 2022-23 budget and placed it on file for public display for one month. The spending plan is expected to be formally approved after a public hearing on Wednesday September 21st. Also approved were adjustments to student fees dealing with the cost of milk in the district.

Over Half-Million Dollar Expansion of Vincennes YMCA Possible

The YMCA of Vincennes is seeking part of Knox County’s American Rescue Plan Act – or ARPA– funds for a major renovation project. The YMCA proposes to use the money to transform the ‘Y’s Gymnastics area into a multi-purpose room, especially for middle and high school student use.


With the ongoing situation in downtown Lawrenceville on State Street, there have been questions as to whether or not the 2022 edition of the Lawrence County Fall Festival will occur. The 59th annual event is sponsored by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Executive Director Paige Harvey reported to the Chamber Board of Directors Wednesday that she is optimistic that the festival will occur and the organization is continuing with it’s preparations. The Fall Festival is scheduled for Wednesday September 14th through Saturday September 17th. Harvey told Lite 103 News that advance tickets are now on sale at reduced price at the Chamber Office and also at many of the banks and financial institutions in the county.

Possible Delay Considered in Main Street Project

Vincennes City Engineer John Sprague is afraid there could be a delay in completion of Main Street Phases Two and Three after all. In a meeting with the Vincennes Redevelopment Commission, Sprague said a utility delay could delay the overall project. Sprague knows the overall contractor — Kerns Excavating — is doing a good job, in spite of the other holdups.


The Lawrenceville High School Lady Basketball Indians now have a new leader. That after the Lawrence Unit 20 Board of Education took action Wednesday evening. They approved the selection of Karlie Drieman from neighboring Vincennes-Knox County Indiana to head up the program. She spent the last 4 years coaching and teaching elementary basketball in the South Knox school system and has played at both the high school and collegiate levels. Drieman takes over the reigns of the Lady Indian program from Misty Belville, who stepped down after last season.
