Brian Kelly Is Making Do With This Notre Dame Team So Far

CHICAGO — Brian Kelly is now the all-time Notre Dame leader in victories, putting No. 106 in the books Saturday against a Wisconsin team that collapsed in ghastly fashion in the fourth quarter at Soldier Field, resulting in a 41–13 Irish win. The fact that a guy who arrived in 2010 as a fancy offensive strategist got this milestone victory with three non-offensive touchdowns is perfect, because Kelly has become, above all else, a guy who wins games by any means necessary.

First Half Analysis: Notre Dame 10, Wisconsin 3

Notre Dame has a 10-3 lead over Wisconsin heading into halftime in a game the Irish have largely controlled. Here are my first half thoughts on the game so far. *** The Irish defense started the game on a short field and gave up a gain of 22 yards on the first play but settled in and held Wisconsin to a field goal. It was a sign of things to come.

Vicksburg special teams deliver 21-14 win over Niles

VICKSBURG — Statistics usually tell the story of any game. But on the rarest of occasions, statistics can lie. Such was the case Friday night in Niles’ 21-14 Wolverine Conference loss to host Vicksburg. The Vikings ran 79 plays compared to 21 for the Bulldogs. Niles outgained Vicksburg 250 to...

Sunburst races return after COVID-19 canceled them last year and delayed them from June

Runners wear masks at the start of this year's Sunburst 10K race Saturday on Lafayette Boulevard in downtown South Bend. As a COVID-19 precautionary measure, runners were required to mask at the starting line, allowed to toss them into barrels about 50 feet later and were asked to mask again as they approached the finish line. The annual race, which raises money for Beacon Health's Memorial Children's Hospital, was canceled last year because of the pandemic. Organizers said the number of racers this year was down by about half, partly because the event had been postponed from its usual date in June.
